Dr. Seuss week crept up on us. I had ideas for what we will do, but lost track of time. When i realized it was Dr. Seuss Day, I decided to try to make at least one item from our list before the day ended. But, I had none of the materials from the plan, at hand for our projects. So i improvised. yep! I got creative using construction paper, poster board, and more, to whip up a quick hat.
Despite the last minute rush, lil man had fun making the hat and enjoyed using it. Getting to use scissors and glue, was the most wonderful experience for him. He couldn't wait to show off his hat to his dad and brothers.
Materials:
construction paper (red, white and black)
Poster Board (white)
Scissors
Glue
Hot glue gun with glue sticks
Printer
Tape measure
Making the hat was easy.
Brim - I measured his head, found a bowl that was the same size or close to it, placed it on the poster board (I used 11x14), then cut the circle. The perfect round piece was placed aside for later use. I then trimmed the outer edges of the remaining part of the board to make it round.
Crown - I cut the red and white construction paper in half on the long side. I lay them out in a pattern (red, white, red, white..), glued them together, Then fold so it looked like a tube, and glued the edges together. I took the round piece of poster board that was cut from the the brim, and used it for the top of the hat. I covered it with red construction paper (to keep the pattern) and hot glued it to the tube. The tube was pinched in different places, then glued together to give it the crooked look.
Band - I cut thin strips of black construction paper, then glued them at the seam of the red and white pattern
Decoration time - I printed the alphabet on white paper, cut them out and randomly glued them to the hat.
Voila, we have a fun Hat.

After all that hard work, we had a quick mini photo shoot in our play area, to showcase our awesome creation :).
