I was browsing through facebook, when someone shared a link about TV shows and Autism. Now, the article itself, though stated, that a research was done, did not prove anything or have any detailed facts that shows the connection with Autism to these shows. I have not done my fear share of research on Autism, but as far as my common sense is taking me, I'm sure that a TV show, cannot cause Autism. But, anyway, I will not get into an argument on this....
However, I do agree with some of the complaints, that these TV shows can affect a child mentally and behaviorally. I think almost every person can relate to this. I remember the annoying callou! goodness, that kid was a whiner! He always wanted things his way. I always made my kids switch to a different show when he comes on. I do think they've heard the cry from parents and made a few adjustments to the show. I am still not a fan. Then there are most of the cartoon shows on boomerang. The violence in these shows are not for young children. We as parents have to be wise and carefully select shows for our children. I know so many children that was hooked on those shows. they would literally sit all day and watch them if given the chance. All of them started speaking and acting like the characters. I was still a child when I observed that and promised to never allow my children to be entertained by those. especially for such lengthy periods.
So what is your take on TV shows? What tv shows are banned in your home? Which do you allow? How much TV time does your children get?
Let's discuss. :)
